Thermal Paper Structure Thermal paper consists of 3 layers. The bottom layer is substrate, ther layer in-between is the layer of thermal-sensitive
coating, the top layer is an optional protective layer. The top layer and the middl layer are most influential to the quality of
thermal paper.
When we are talking about the quality of thermal paper, we need to mention the most important two aspects:
1. The image (letters or barcode) printed. If the thermal reactive layer is evenly coated on-top, The printed color would be
uniformly displayed on the paper, instead of darker in some places and lighter in the rest part.
2. The formula of the thermal reactive layer is the most important factor for the preservation time of the printed image on
thermal paper. As a producer, we have tested different formulas in lab, but still need to take the costs and market into consideration
when developing thermal papers with new form formulas.
3. The protective layer is optional, while it's equally important to thermal paper. This layer is mainly designed to protect the
thermal-sensitive layer from taking chemical reactions before it is printed. It is also designed to protect the thermal-sensitive
components of the thermal printer from being damaged.
